  Swim in Pink for Breast Cancer Research this October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

   

  Excitement is already building for this year’s Swim in Pink, the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI)’s annual fundraising event in association with Blackrock Beachwear. Taking place nationally wherever you want to swim, on Sunday, 11^th October, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event will encourage people across Ireland to dip, swim or splash in support of breast cancer research.

   Now an established highlight of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month calendar, Swim in Pink has won numerous awards and has seen more than 5,000 swimmers take part over the years, raising more than €800,000 for life-saving breast cancer research. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Ireland, with approximately 1 in 7 women expected to develop the disease and 3,587 new cases are diagnosed each year.

   The funds raised through Swim in Pink help support the important research funded by NBCRI. Researchers based at the Lambe Institute at University of Galway are currently leading major national and international projects focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

   Swim in Pink events are taking place at locations across the country, giving people the opportunity to come together in their local communities and make a difference. Participants can find their nearest swim using the interactive locations map at www.SwimInPink.ie or setup their own swim.

   Registration costs just €25, with all proceeds supporting the research team funded by NBCRI. Every registered swimmer will also receive a FREE Swim in Pink Swim Cap.

  Arklow Cancer Support offers emotional support and practical help to people living with cancer and their families and friends. Why not join them on Friday mornings from 10.30 for their popular drop in meetings.

  Purple House offers support to people living with cancer and their families and their centre on Quinsburough Rd in Bray is open from drop-ins from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday. Their trained support staff and volunteers are on hand to offer a cup of tea and a listening ear in total confidentiality. They can also help arrange other services and supports for you.
