Superb Second-Half Display Ensures Carnew Emmets' first Wicklow Senior Hurling Honours since 2009
Wicklow SHC final - Carnew Emmets 0-16 Bray Emmets 2-8
After sixteen long years, Carnew Emmets have captured their 20th Wicklow senior hurling championship title.
In the process the Blue and Gold halted Bray Emmets’ seven-in-a-row bid in a titanic 0-16 to 2-8 comeback win at Echelon Park in Aughrim in front of their thrilled supporters.
Despite their early domination, the eventual winners trailed 1-3 to 0-5 at the break as Andrew Conway's goal pushed Bray ahead.
Eoin Kavanagh’s frees kept them in touch, and the second half with Padraig Doran to the fore, saw the unfancied Carnew confound the experts.
Level at 0-10 to 1-7 with 13 minutes left, Carnew pushed on for victory with scores from Kavanagh, Doran and Young.
Five unanswered points saw them surge ahead but Bray struck a late Pádraig Doyle goal to cut the gap to one.
It mattered not, as Carnew’s defence stood firm especially when Cormac Redmond produced a vital block on Doyle to deny an equalising goal.
Carnew’s 16-year famine was then ended amid wild celebrations.
