The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed that covered cycle parking facilities will be included as part of the design for the new Wicklow Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge Scheme.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed that covered cycle parking facilities will be included as part of the design for the new Wicklow Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge Scheme.

This key infrastructure project will connect Station Road in Wicklow town to the Port Access Road, with the bridge providing seamless access between Wicklow train station and the port. €70,000 was allocated towards the scheme this year and it is currently at stage 4 of the statutory process.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Jennifer Whitmore said: “We have been contacted by many cyclists in relation to covered cycle parking facilities and I am pleased to get confirmation today from the NTA that covered cycle parking facilities will be included in the design of the Wicklow Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge scheme.

“The project is currently in its preliminary design stage, with a Part 8 planning submission expected in the near future. The inclusion of covered cycle parking facilities reflects the ongoing commitment to enhance cycling infrastructure and promotes sustainable travel as part of the Wicklow Active Travel Programme, which is funded by the NTA.”

Deputy Whitmore added: “Creating cyclist-friendly facilities is so important in Wicklow. This new project will encourage more people to choose cycling as a sustainable and convenient mode of transport.
