WIcklow Among Local Authorities Which Spent €125 Million Buying From Private Developers

Following the news yesterday that a number of local authorities in Dublin, Cork, Kildare and Waterford spent more than €125 million last year buying 466 new homes from private developers, it’s understood a similar approach is being taken here in Wicklow.

In one example, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council paid more than €5 million for a development of 14 apartments and houses in Monkstown, six of which were one bedroom apartments.

Fianna Fail’s Spokesperson for Housing and Urban Renewal, Wicklow T.D. Pat Casey, said potential first time buyers in Wicklow are losing out because the state’s buying up new private estates.
