The Labour Leader Alan Kelly has paid tribute to Liam Kavanagh, a former Government Minister and Labour TD for Wicklow.First running for the Dáil in the 1968 by-election after the death of his uncle Labour TD Jim Everett, Liam Kavanagh was first elected in 1969 and served as an MEP for Leinster on three occasions. Aged 86, he was appointed Minister for the Environment in 1983, a position he held for three years. In a statement Alan Kelly said Liam was dedicated to the values of the Labour Party, serving his community and the people he represented with determination, honesty, and integrity, continuing the proud tradition of Labour in Wicklow.
